Buddhist Prayer?
From my research, there is no god in Buddhism. So, I was wondering about Buddhist prayer?
Who do you pray to? The Buddah?
Can you pray to the deceased for their prayers and guidence?
I ask this because I am a Catholic thinking of conversion. And was just wondering about Buddhist prayer.
ALSO: I have read in websites the basics of Buddhist prayer beads (Tibet) but they do not say what prayers to say. Can anyone direct me on this?

The truth is: Buddhists don't pray. However, Buddhist do perform chants and repeat mantras.
When Buddhists chant, they usually repeat all or part of one of the Buddhist sutras (texts of the Buddha's teaching). Often, the chants are done in Sanskrit -- a language that most of us don't understand. Buddhist chanting doesn't depend on understanding, however. Buddhist chanting is actually a type of meditation practice, one that creates harmony and compassion.
Buddhists also repeat mantras ("om mane padme hum" or one of hundreds of other such phrases). Again, the repetition of a mantra is a meditation practice that doesn't depend on any understanding. Mantra practice helps settle the mind and reduce random thinking.
Western Buddhists usually refer to beads as "malas," not prayer beads. Malas are used to count the repetition of a mantra, to count the breath, or in any other meditation technique where counting is required.
If you'd like to begin mantra practice yourself, you can start with either "om mane padme hum" or "gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha" ("gate" is pronounced "ga-teh"). Repeat the mantra at least 1,000 times a day. It will settle your thinking and strengthen your center. This will help you respond with wisdom and compassion to the constantly changing circumstances of life.
