3 Must-visit Temples When in Magelang, Indonesia   by Bookhotelsonline

When staying at either a fancy or budget hotel in Magelang, Indonesia, it's not enough that you check out the entertainment junctions and other commercial establishments in the area. In order to get a genuine feel of the locale, it's best to brush up on its history and mingle with the residents. Another interesting activity is to drop by the temples. This will give you an in-depth understanding on what the locals believe in and how the children are raised by religion. Below are 3 of the most popular houses of worship in Magelang:

1. Borobodur Temple

The most well-known temple in the region, the Borobodur Temple complex is also one of the greatest monuments built around the world. This ancient structure is thought to have been erected between the end of the 7th century and the beginning of the 8th century A.D. For a period of time, the Borobodur Temple was the only spiritual center of Buddhism in the whole of Java. It lost this supreme title until it was rediscovered in the 18th century.

2. Candi Pawon

Approximately one and half kilometers east from Borobudur Temple lies the valuable Candi Pawon or Pawon Temple. It is one of the most flocked Buddhist temples in Central Java. This centuries-old temple was built almost purely with volcanic stones. Architecture-wise, it is a wonderful infusion of old Javanese Hindu and Indian artistry. The structural detail of Pawon Temple is said to be inspired by the delicate patterns of the early years of Borobudur sculpture. Contrary to hearsay, Candi Pawon is not a cemetery. Rather, it is a place to safeguard King Indra's weapon, Vajranala.

3. Candi Canggal

Located along Gunung Wukir's main road and within proximate distance to several Magelang hotels is Candi Canggal. Just like the 2 temples mentioned above, it is an old place of worship, dating back to the 8th century. To get there, the best landmark to look for is the Chinese cemetery. Take the road to the right; it is visible just after you pass the memorial park. Follow this road until you get a sight of Candi Canggal.

Now that you have more or less an idea about these temples, it's better to troop to these places and discover how they can enrich your vacation experience. It's undeniably far better than just lounging inside a hotel in Magelang and waiting for time to pass by.
